Wife Insulting Husband for Dark Complexion Can be Basis of Divorce: Karnataka HC

Bengaluru: The High Court of Karnataka opined that insulting a man for being dark-skinned by his wife constitutes cruelty and it can be a strong reason for allowing his appeal to grant him divorce.

The Karnataka High Court stated this while granting divorce to a 44-year-old man from his 41-year-old wife.

The court scrutinized the evidence to come to the conclusion that the wife used to insult the husband because he was dark-skinned and for it she had left him without any cause. To cover up this aspect, she leveled false allegations of illicit relationships against the husband. The court found these to be acts of cruelty.

This couple from Bengaluru got married in 2007. They have a girl child. In 2012, the husband approached a family court in Bengaluru seeking a divorce.
