Woman Arrested for Entering Odisha MLA’s House Demanding Recognition as Wife

Bhubaneswar: A woman was arrested by the police in Ganjam district of Odisha on Wednesday for allegedly entering the residence of Polasara MLA Srikanta Sahu forcefully demanding recognition as his wife.

The arrested accused identified as Sanjukta Mahala, was remanded to judicial custody as her bail plea was rejected.

As per reports, this woman entered the MLA’s house at Hatiota in Polasara and created a furore. She was arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by the MLA’s father.

Sanjukta alleged that she entered the MLA’s house to force him to recognize her as his wife when she did not get justice even after lodging a police complaint.

In July 2023, Sanjukta registered a complaint with the Bhubaneswar Mahila Police Station alleging that the Polasara MLA was torturing her physically and mentally during their “nine-year relationship”. She later filed a petition in the Orissa High Court, alleging improper handling of her case by the authorities.
