World Cup Winning Jersey of Messi May Fetch Over $10 Million in Auction

Six football jerseys worn by Lionel Messi during Argentina’s 2022 World Cup campaign in Qatar will be auctioned.  They include the jersey that the Argentina captain during the final match against France.

As per a report in Sky News, Sotheby’s is expecting that these jerseys worn by Messi will fetch over $10 million. The 36-year-old football legend announced the auction on social media and stated that a percentage of the sales would benefit children with rare diseases through the UNICAS Project, which is run by the Sant Joan de Deu Barcelona Children’s Hospital.

The set of jerseys will be put up for auction by Sotheby’s New York branch between November 30 and December 14.

Till now the record for a game-worn item is $9.3 million, for the jersey worn by Diego Maradona during the 2-1 quarterfinal victory over England in 1986, when he scored the now-famous “Hand of God” goal. This jersey was sold in a 2022 auction.
