5 Arrested for Impersonating ED Officials to Loot Rs 1.69 Cr in Tamil Nadu

Chennai: Five persons were arrested in Tamil Nadu on charges of looting Rs 1.69 crore from a businessman’s office posing as Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials. These miscreants conducted a fake raid at the businessman’s office. Two luxury cars and costly mobile phones of the victims were also taken away by the accused.

The arrested persons were identified as Vijay Karthick (37), Narendra Nath (45), Rajasekar (39), Loganathan (41), Gopinath (46).

According to the Tamil Nadu police, these miscreants were arrested following a complaint lodged by two cotton yarn merchants in Tiruppur.

The complainants received a phone call from a private company in Hyderabad claiming that they were planning to execute a construction project in Coimbatore, Tiruppur and Erode.

The callers, according to cotton yarn merchants called for investments with the promise that the paid amount will be doubled within a short time.

The victims managed to arrange Rs 1.69 crore. And then a group of five men claiming to be ED officials reached the office of the cotton merchants, took away the cash and drove away with the two luxury cars and mobile phones. They also took away the CCTV camera footage before escaping.

The cotton yarn merchants became suspicious and lodged a complaint with the Tiruppur city police. Police were able to nab the culprits by forming four special teams.
