Woman Cons Bizman Befriended Over Facebook of Rs 15 Lakh in Sundargarh

Sundargarh: A woman was arrested along with her three family members for allegedly cheating a contractor of Rs 15 lakh in Odisha’s Sundergarh district.

The accused identified as Jharana Badi and her family members were arrested following a police complaint by the victim named Sumit Mishra of Biramitrapur area in the Sundargarh district.

As per the complaint lodged by Sumit, the main accused Jharana developed friendship with him through Facebook. The woman claimed that she owned trucks and a jewellery shop. She invited Sumit to a hotel in Sundergarh to discuss a business plan of huge profits. She asked Sumit to bring Rs 15 lakh with him.

While they were discussing the so called business plan in the hotel, the woman allegedly escaped from the hotel by replacing the money bag with another bag.

After realizing that he had been cheated by the woman, Sumit lodged a complaint with the police. Police investigation led to the arrest of Jharana, her husband Subas Tanti, her sister Rajkumari and brother Jubaraj.

Police have seized Rs 8.5 lakh cash, more than 15 fake Aadhaar cards, PAN cards, bank passbooks, duplicate gold rings and necklaces from the possession of the arrested persons.

As per police sources, Jharana and her family members were cheating people by developing friendships with them on social media.

Jharana is said to have cheated people in similar manner in Jharsuguda.
