Agra: A teenage girl was strangled to death and thrown into the Yamuna by her father and other family members near Agra in UP after she was caught talking to a boy.
Hearing her screams, locals managed to save the girl while her father and uncle fled the spot in Agra.
Based on the complaint lodged by the 16-year-old girl, an attempt-to-murder case has been filed against her father and uncle. Search operations are on to nab the duo.
The victim, who is a student of class 9 has been sent to a shelter home.
The victim told child welfare officials that her father had caught her talking to a boy, after which she was forced to get married. On her refusal, her father tried to kill her, she alleged.
Her father took her on a bike to a nearby village on the pretext of going to Gurugram. When they reached the pontoon bridge over Yamuna, her father along with her uncle tried to strangle her with a muffler. Then they threw her into the river and escaped.
Hearing her screams, villagers rescued her from the river.
