Govt School Principal Sexually Harassed 142 Girl Students in Haryana

Chandigarh: A 55-year-old principal of a government school in the Jind district of Haryana is alleged to have sexually harassed 142 girl students. Initially, around 60 girls had lodged complaints against him. Now the number of complainants against him has risen to 142.

This shocking disclosure came up during the investigation by the Sexual Harassment Committee. The victims alleged that the 55-year-old accused was calling them to his office to “indulge in obscene acts”, said Haryana State Commission for Women’s chairperson, Renu Bhatia.

This erring principal was arrested by police on November 6 only after the Haryana State Commission for Women sent an ultimatum to the state police.

Initially, a few girl students of the school had complained about the misdeed of the principal, which was forwarded by the Haryana State Commission for Women to the police on September 14. But local police did not take any action against the principal till October 30, after which a SIT was formed to investigate the case matter.

The Education Department suspended the accused on October 27.
