Rapist of 7-Yr-Old Shot in Leg While Escaping from Police Custody in UP

Lucknow: A man arrested for allegedly raping a 7-year-old girl was shot in the leg while he attempted to escape from police custody in the Deoria district of Uttar Pradesh.

The accused identified as Saifulla made the escape attempt while he was being taken to a hospital for a medical check-up. Saifulla was arrested on Sunday for allegedly raping a 7-year-old girl. He complained of sickness in custody and the personnel of the Deoria Sadar Kotwali police station were taking him to the hospital for a checkup and treatment.

Saifulla allegedly jumped out of the police vehicle and managed to escape. Multiple police teams were launched to nab him. The accused was spotted late in the night at the Sonughat crossing and he allegedly fired at the police personnel. During the encounter, he was shot in his right leg.
