UGC new rules! Direct admission to PhD after 4-year degree, research paper is not compulsory

New Delhi: The University Grants Commission (UGC) is going to implement a new rule for students. After completing a 4-year degree, graduate students may be granted admission to a Ph.D. program. After the implementation of this rule, students can directly enroll in the Ph.D. program after completing a 4-year bachelor’s degree.

It now requires a grade equivalent to a minimum of 75 percent marks at graduation. In addition, if any student has completed 4-year graduation and completed a one-year Master’s program, he/she will also be given an opportunity for admission to the Ph.D. program.

UGC is preparing a regulation draft. It is expected that the announcement of the new rules for Ph.D. admission can be made next week. UGC has not clarified whether this Ph.D. program will be conducted online mode or not. According to another UGC rule, the obligation to publish research papers after graduation will be waived.

Currently, a Master’s degree is mandatory for admission to Ph.D. programs. Those who qualify for a scholarship in UGC-NET, UGC-CSR, NET, GATE, or CEED or its equivalent National Label Test with good performance in an interview can apply.
