UP Students Pass Exam by Writing ‘Jai Shri Ram’ as Answer, 2 Professors Suspended

Lucknow: Students of the first year studying at state-run Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University in Jaunpur in Uttar Pradesh passed in the exam by allegedly writing ‘Jai Shri Ram’ and the names of cricketers in the answer sheet.

Later on, the authorities suspended two professors for allegedly extorting money from students to provide marks on answer sheets filled with religious slogans, film songs and names of cricketers.

A student leader of the University, Divyanshu Singh, in his letter to the Prime Minister, Chief Minister, Governor and Vice Chancellor alleged that even the students who got zero marks were passed by giving them more than 60 per cent marks.

These grave irregularities in the exams conducted by the university, came to the fore through an RTI response. The university constituted a committee to investigate the matter.  That Committee in its report said that students were awarded marks that they did not deserve.

NDTV has accessed the answer sheets where Jai Shri Ram appears in the middle of the answer about ‘pharmacy as career’. In the same answer, appears the names of cricketers like Hardik Pandya, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

The examiners, Dr Vinay Verma and Manish Gupta were suspended. The investigating committee has recommended termination for the involved teachers.
