‘Gadar 2’ Shatters Predictions, Mints Over ₹173 Crores in 4 Days

Mumbai: ‘Gadar 2’ has surpassed all expectations at the box office, raking in over Rs 173 crores in revenue. The film’s success came as a surprise, especially considering its initial performance projections and competition from ‘OMG 2’ and ‘Jailer’.

Contrary to the anticipated opening of around Rs 25 crores, the movie achieved a staggering Rs 40 crores on its first day alone, leaving industry insiders astonished. Sunny Deol commemorated this triumph with a celebratory bash.

Film trade analyst Karan Taurani spoke to IANS about the unexpected success. He attributed it to factors like the Independence Day long weekend and the film’s franchise appeal. He also emphasized the significance of franchise, VFX, and patriotic themes for revitalizing Hindi cinema post-COVID.

Taurani projected weekend earnings of Rs 230 crores, including Tuesday’s collections, and estimated a lifetime total ranging from Rs 350 to 400 crore. While trade expert Ramesh Bala suggested a maximum potential of over Rs 500 crore, Taurani dismissed the possibility of ‘Gadar 2’ joining the Rs 1000 crore club.

In terms of competition, Taurani acknowledged that domestically, ‘Gadar 2’ could potentially match ‘Jailer,’ but internationally, it faced challenges due to ‘Jailer’s’ strong South Indian audience and international appeal. Despite this, ‘Gadar 2’s’ unexpected performance stands as a positive sign for Hindi cinema’s resurgence.
