‘The Kashmir Files’ Director Vivek Agnihotri Says He’s ‘Bankrupt’, Struggling for Next Film

Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri, known for the controversial yet successful film “The Kashmir Files,” recently shared his unconventional approach to filmmaking.

In a candid conversation with Hindustan Times, Agnihotri revealed that he doesn’t create movies solely for commercial gain. Following the success of “The Kashmir Files,” he invested all his earnings into his next project, “The Vaccine War.” This move has left him financially challenged, a fact he discussed with his wife and acknowledged that producing another film would be a significant struggle.

Agnihotri, who is a member of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), also made headlines by expressing his disagreement with the CBFC’s handling of Akshay Kumar’s film “OMG 2.” Although he was not part of the revising committee that recommended changes, he voiced strong opposition to the movie receiving an ‘A’ certificate. He criticized the perceived vulnerability of the CBFC, suggesting that external pressures can influence the board to make alterations, which he finds concerning.

In Agnihotri’s opinion, the CBFC itself should not exist, advocating for a more open approach to content without censorship. His stance reflects a broader debate about the role of film certification and its impact on creative expression.
