Thunderstorms with Lightning Expected in 11 Odisha Districts on Aug 12; IMD Issues Warning

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms with lightning in several districts of Odisha on August 12. The districts that are likely to be affected include Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, and Boudh.

The IMD has issued a yellow warning for these districts, which means that there is a possibility of heavy rain and thunderstorms accompanied by lightning. The warning is in effect from 8:30 AM to 6:30 PM on August 12.

The IMD has also forecast light to moderate rain or thundershowers in North Coastal Odisha, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, and a few other districts in Odisha on Saturday.

On August 13 (Sunday), the IMD predicts thunderstorms with lightning in several districts, including Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, and Rayagada.

There’s also a likelihood of light to moderate rain or thundershowers in a few places in North Odisha and one or two places in South Odisha on Sunday.

In the last 24 hours, light to moderate rain and thundershowers have been reported in specific districts, including Koraput, Malkangiri, Sundargarh, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Nabarangpur, and Ganjam.
