4000 Test Tube Babies Destroyed in Israeli Strike of Gaza Fertility Clinic

The explosion of an Israeli shell that hit Gaza’s largest fertility clinic in December has destroyed more than 4,000 embryos plus 1,000 more specimens of sperm and unfertilized eggs. The explosion blasted the lids off five liquid nitrogen tanks that stored them at Gaza City’s Al Basma IVF centre.

The embryos stored there were the last hope for hundreds of Palestinian couples facing infertility.

This fertility clinic was established by Cambridge-trained obstetrician and gynaecologist, Bahaeldeen Ghalayini (73) in 1997.

Israel attacked Gaza after Hamas launched the October 7 attack on Israel, killing 1,200 people and taking 253 hostages. More than 33,000 Palestinians have died in Israeli attacks, according to Gaza health authorities.
