Doctors Miraculously Reattach Boy’s Head with Body Following Road Accident

Jerusalem: In a remarkable and rare case, surgeons in Israel successfully reattached a young boy’s head to his torso after a devastating road accident. The groundbreaking surgery took place at a hospital in Jerusalem in June of this year. The 12-year-old Palestinian, named Suleiman Hassan, suffered from a condition known as bilateral atlanto occipital joint dislocation, commonly referred to as “internal decapitation.” This condition occurs when the skull becomes detached from the top vertebrae of the spine.

The incident occurred when Hassan was riding his bike and was struck by a car. He was immediately rushed to Hadassah Medical Center, where he underwent a lengthy surgery in the trauma unit. The doctors described his head as being “almost completely detached from the base of his neck.” To restore the integrity of his spinal column, the surgeons utilized innovative plates and fixations in the damaged area.

The medical team at the hospital revealed that Hassan’s chances of survival were initially estimated at just 50 percent. However, his recovery has been described as nothing short of miraculous. Following the surgery, Hassan was discharged with a cervical splint, and doctors are closely monitoring his health. Encouragingly, he has shown no signs of neurological deficits or sensory or motor dysfunction.

One of the clinical professors at the hospital emphasized that the success of the surgery was made possible because the major blood vessels remained intact throughout the incident. The medical procedure’s disclosure came after Hassan’s discharge, highlighting the exceptional nature of his case.
