Deadly Flesh-Rotting ‘Zombie Drug’ Leads to 9 Deaths & 150 Overdoses in US in 18 Months

Washington: The dangerous drug “Tranq” or xylazine has caused significant harm in several US cities. The New York Post recently reported 150 overdoses and nine deaths linked to this substance in a Florida county alone over the past 18 months. Initially used as a tranquillizer for cows and horses, Tranq has entered the illegal drug market, often in combination with fentanyl.

Orange County Sheriff John Mina reveals that a shocking 80% of seized fentanyl samples contain xylazine. This alarming trend raises serious concerns about public health as standard emergency treatments fail to revive overdose victims affected by Tranq. Notably, Narcan, a medication used for reversing opioid overdoses, proves ineffective against this drug.

Tranq’s use is rapidly increasing, leading to outbreaks of skin infections and overdoses. Users describe its effects as causing flesh deterioration similar to that of a crocodile. Additionally, individuals addicted to fentanyl exhibit zombie-like behaviour when combined with Tranq.

The US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) states that the combination of xylazine and fentanyl poses the most dangerous drug threat the country has ever faced.

Xylazine induces sedative symptoms such as extreme drowsiness and respiratory depression. Prolonged exposure to the drug can cause severe open sores that rapidly develop into serious skin infections. Without immediate treatment, these ulcers may require amputation.

Los Angeles public health officials stress the life-threatening effect of xylazine when combined with opioids like fentanyl. The drug exacerbates the respiratory depression caused by opioids, significantly increasing the risk of overdose and death.

Captain Darryl Blanford explains that fentanyl producers use Tranq to prolong a user’s high, despite the associated risks, as it keeps them returning for more.

According to a 2022 report, xylazine has been found in 36 states. Many states across the country have implemented various measures to curb the spread of this dangerous substance.
