Designer Bag, Smaller Than a Grain of Salt, Fetches ₹51 Lakh at Auction

A minuscule bag, smaller than a grain of salt, recently fetched a staggering $63,000 (Rs 51.6 lakh) at an online auction, as reported by CNN. This fluorescent yellowish-green bag, inspired by a popular Louis Vuitton design, was crafted by New York art collective MSCHF. Measuring a mere 657 by 222 by 700 microns (less than 0.03 inches wide), the bag garnered attention when MSCHF shared a photo of it on Instagram.

MSCHF described the bag as narrow enough to pass through the eye of a needle and smaller than a grain of sea salt, solidifying its status as the ultimate epitome of miniaturization. The bag was created using a technique called two-photo polymerization, commonly employed in 3D printing micro-scale plastic parts.

The sale of the bag included a microscope with a digital display, enabling the buyer to admire the intricate details. The photos shared by MSCHF showcased the iconic “LV” monogram, reminiscent of Louis Vuitton’s signature design. In comparison, full-sized LV bags typically retail for $3,100 to $4,300.

MSCHF, known for its eccentric auctions, was founded in 2016. The collective gained notoriety when it faced a lawsuit from Nike due to its creation of “Satan Shoes.” These modified sneakers, featuring satanic symbols and drops of real human blood, numbered 666 pairs. However, the legal dispute was eventually resolved out of court.

In 2021, MSCHF made headlines by transforming four Birkin bags into sandals, each pair priced as high as $760,000. Their unique and unconventional approach to art and fashion continues to captivate audiences worldwide.
