Pakistan On The Brink: Imran Khan Urges Authorities to Prevent Disaster & Preserve National Unity

Lahore: In a recent video address, former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan expressed concerns about the nation’s future, warning of an impending disaster and the potential for the country’s disintegration. Khan accused the ruling coalition of conspiring to pit the army against his party and emphasized that holding elections was the only solution to end political instability.

Khan criticized the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) leaders and Nawaz Sharif, who is currently in London, for prioritizing personal interests over the well-being of the nation. He claimed that they were unconcerned about constitutional desecration, the destruction of state institutions, or tarnishing the reputation of the Pakistan Army. Khan appealed to the relevant authorities to allow elections to take place in order to save the country from its current predicament.

Regarding his recent arrest on May 9, Khan alleged that it was a “pure conspiracy” orchestrated by the ruling coalition and the Punjab caretaker government. He cautioned that if the situation persisted, Pakistan could face a situation similar to the disintegration of East Pakistan.

Addressing his criticism of the country’s army, Khan clarified that it was akin to reprimanding his own children. He denied interfering in state institutions’ internal affairs, even when he had received confirmed reports of a former army chief conspiring against him. Khan mentioned that some politicians were spreading misinformation to the current army chief, suggesting that he would remove him from office if elected.

Responding to claims by the Punjab government that terrorists were hiding at his Zaman Park residence, Khan demanded a lawful search with a warrant, expressing concern for his own safety in the presence of terrorists. He cautioned against using this situation as an excuse to crack down on his political party, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

Khan highlighted a recent survey indicating that 70% of Pakistan’s population supports the PTI, while the remaining 30% backs the parties in the ruling coalition. To dispel doubts, Khan permitted representatives from the electronic and digital media to visit his residence, confirming that there were no terrorists present, only domestic workers and policemen.

The arrest of Imran Khan triggered unrest across Pakistan, with protesters storming the army headquarters in Rawalpindi and setting fire to a corps commander’s house in Lahore. The clashes resulted in several deaths, and the military pledged to bring the perpetrators to justice.

It is important to note that in April last year, Khan was removed from power through a no-confidence vote, which he claimed was part of a larger conspiracy led by the United States to undermine his independent foreign policy decisions concerning Russia, China, and Afghanistan.
