Days after his return home, on July 2, he tested positive for Covid, the report said, citing a case study in the Journal of Infection.

The same afternoon, he began developing a rash on his left arm. The next day, small cyst-like boils appeared on his torso, lower limbs, face and glutes. They were surrounded by a rash.

The multiple tests also included probes for sexually transmitted infections, or STIs. He tested positive for HIV-1. The last time he was checked for HIV infection was in September 2021, when he had tested negative.
