Bangkok Has World’s Longest City Name, Check What it Is

Thailand’s capital city Bangkok has another credit to its name. Bangkok takes pride in having the world’s longest city name.

Bangkok city’s full name is “Krung Thep Mahanakhon Amon Rattanakosin Mahinthara Ayuthaya Mahadilok Phop Noppharat Ratchathani Burirom Udomratchaniwet Mahasathan Amon Piman Awatan Sathit Sakkathattiya Witsanukam Prasit.”

The meaning of this poetic long name is “City of Angels, great city of immortals, magnificent city of nine gems, seat of the king, city of royal palaces, home of gods incarnate, erected by Vishvakarman at Indra’s behest.”

As regular use of this extremely long name is not possible, most Thais use the shortened version, “Krung Thep Maha Nakhon.” And fro we from outside it is shorter, Bangkok. The long name of Bangkok represents its rich past, its role as a royal centre, and its connection to mythology.
