Vietnam Restaurant Killing 300 Cats Each Month for Dishes Closes Down

A restaurant in Vietnamese which was slaughtering around 300 cats every month for its special Dishes was closed down by its owner, who expressed moral objections to the practice.

According to the Humane Society International, the owner of the restaurant tore down the sign advertising cat meat, or “thit meo,” outside his Gia Bao restaurant in Pham Quoc Doanh, in early December. He also transformed it into a grocery shop.

Around 20 cats and kittens that were going to be drowned to death for use of their meat in the restaurant were rescued to be given to local adoption agencies, reported Metro UK.

According to the cat meat serving restaurant, Doanh, he resorted to selling cat meat dishes at his restaurant to increase income for his family. As there were no other restaurants in the area serving cat meat, he could get a good income. The cats were being drowned in bucket of water for slaughter.

As per the Humane Society International, every year around a million cats including stolen pets are slaughtered in Vietnam for meat.

The restaurant owner received a one-time grant from the Humane Society International to close his eatery and set up a grocery shop instead.

“Now that I’ve closed my cat slaughter business, I feel more peaceful in my mind,” he said after ending the cat meat business.
