15 Earthquakes in India in Past 24 Hrs, Mostly in J&K, Ladakh

New Delhi: At least 15 small and medium earthquakes were experienced in India during the past 24 hours. Most of these earthquakes were experienced in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

The strongest of them was the 5.1 magnitude earthquake at Padam in Kargil, at a depth of 6.2 miles, on December 18. The smallest one of 1.9 magnitude hit Katra in Jammu and Kashmir at 11:28 am on Tuesday.

On Monday, four back-to-back quakes rocked the Union territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh in a span of less than an hour.

Fourteen earthquakes were felt in the lower Himalayan region in the past 24 hours. During the period, a 3.6 magnitude earthquake hit the Nicobar Island region Tuesday.

No report of casualty or damage to property has been received so far.

A major 6.2 magnitude earthquake struck China’s Gansu province at 11.59 pm on Monday, killing at least 116 people.
