2 IAF Aircraft On Standby In Jeddah To Evacuate Indians From Sudan: MEA

New Delhi: As part of the government’s plans to rescue stranded Indians from violence-torn Sudan, India has placed two C-130J military transport planes on standby in Jeddah while an Indian Navy ship has arrived at a major port in the area.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) disclosed the details, stating that while immediate measures for the evacuation of Indians had been put in place, any movement on the ground will depend on the security situation.

According to the report, the security situation in Sudan is still “volatile” and there have been indications of intense fighting in several spots throughout the nation’s capital, Khartoum.

According to the MEA, India is doing every effort to guarantee the safety and security of Indians who are trapped in Sudan. The complicated and dynamic security environment in Sudan is being continuously monitored, according to the statement.

The MEA stated, “We are also actively negotiating with other partners for the safe transit of those Indians who are stuck in Sudan and would wish to be evacuated.

The MEA and the Indian embassy in Sudan are in constant contact with the UN, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt, and the US in addition to the Sudanese government.

“As part of our preparations and in order to move swiftly, the Government of India is pursuing multiple options,” the MEA stated.

“Two Indian Air Force C-130J are currently positioned on standby in Jeddah. And, INS Sumedha has reached Port Sudan,” it said.

It said the Sudanese airspace is currently closed for all foreign aircraft and overland movement also has risks and logistical challenges.
