6 Additional Judges Of Punjab & Haryana HC Made Permanent

New Delhi: The Centre, on Thursday, announced the permanent appointment of six more justices to the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Justices Vikas Bahl, Vikas Suri, Sandeep Moudgil, Vinod Sharma Bhardwaj, Pankaj Jain, and Jasjit Singh Bedi are among the judges whose terms have been made permanent.

Little did Sandeep Moudgil know that he would play another significant inning when he hung up his boots after representing the State of Haryana in national cricket events run by the BCCI and the nation in the NKP Salvey Trophy due to an injury. Less than a month after the Supreme Court collegium reached a resolution recommending the same, the Supreme Court sent out the notification declaring him and the other Judges permanent.

Similarly, the Central Government also announced Justice Sanjeev Prakash Sharma’s transfer from the Patna High Court to the Punjab and Haryana High Court, bringing the total number of Judges to 67 as opposed to the sanctioned strength of 85.

Chief Justice Ravi Shanker Jha would also retire this year in October, if not elevated to the Supreme Court. Justice M. S. Ramachandra Rao’s name has been suggested for appointment as the Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court, while Justice Augustine George Masih’s name has also been approved for promotion to the position of Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court.
