“A Lawyer without a Brief is Like Tendulkar without His Bat”

New Delhi: A lawyer’s case file is like the bat in the hands of a star cricketer like Sachin Tendulkar. Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud came up with this comparison while cautioning a lawyer.

“A lawyer without a brief is like Sachin Tendulkar without his bat. This looks bad,” the Chief Justice of India said. “You are in your gown and band but have no paper. You must always have your brief with you,” the CJI added.

This lawyer was reprimanded by a bench of the Supreme Court comprising Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Justice Hima Kohli for not being serious while appearing in the court. A bench could not accept that the lawyer had appeared before it without the case file. They immediately warned the concerned lawyer regarding the lapse.
