Ajit Pawar Asserts CM Ambitions as NCP Faces Vertical Split

Mumbai: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar expressed his aspirations to become the Chief Minister of the state, as he seemed to have an advantage in the numbers game following the vertical split of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). Pawar made these remarks during a meeting at the Bhujbal Knowledge City in Mumbai.

Having been sworn in as Deputy CM for the fifth time on June 2, Ajit Pawar, who has always been open about his chief ministerial ambitions, emphasized the importance of becoming the “pramukh” (CM) in order to implement his ideas and plans.

During the meeting, Pawar took a dig at his 83-year-old uncle and NCP Chief, Sharad Pawar, questioning when he plans to retire from active politics. He suggested that everyone has their productive years between 25 and 75, implying that it might be time for his uncle to step aside.

The Ajit Pawar faction gathered 31 MLAs at the meeting, while Sharad Pawar’s separate meeting had 13 attendees, signalling a clear divide within the NCP.

As Ajit Pawar expressed his ambitions and rallied support from a significant number of NCP MLAs, the path towards becoming the Chief Minister of Maharashtra appears promising for him. However, the final outcome remains uncertain as the political landscape continues to evolve.
