In a separate development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new Parliament building on May 28. The state-of-the-art structure aims to uphold India’s rich democratic traditions and constitutional values, while also providing enhanced facilities for Members to carry out their responsibilities more effectively. Notably, the new Parliament building will have the capacity to accommodate 888 members in the Lok Sabha, compared to the current provision of 543 members. Similarly, the Rajya Sabha will be able to accommodate 384 members, an increase from the existing capacity of 250. Furthermore, the Lok Sabha Chamber will host joint sessions of both Houses.
Overall, these developments signify a significant step forward for Assam’s governance infrastructure and India’s democratic processes, ensuring an improved environment for legislative proceedings and fostering the efficient functioning of elected representatives.
