Big blow to Whatsapp and Facebook from Delhi High Court: CCI’s investigation will continue

New Delhi: WhatsApp and Facebook have received a big blow from the Delhi High Court. The Competition Commission of India (CCI) will continue to investigate WhatsApp’s new privacy policy. A double bench of the Delhi High Court dismissed the review petition against the CCI of Facebook and WhatsApp.

However, earlier the single bench also rejected the appeal of both. WhatsApp and Facebook appealed against this in the double bench of the High Court. However, in WhatsApp’s new privacy policy, users’ data can be shared with Facebook and its other companies. The CCI ordered a probe into WhatsApp’s updated privacy policy in 2021, which was challenged.

According to the CCI, WhatsApp is collecting customer data excessively and abusing its influence. According to the new policy, it is wrong for WhatsApp to collect, use, and share its customer data with Facebook for advertising purposes. This is a direct abuse of their position in the market.
