Chhattisgarh Women’s Body Chief Stirs Controversy Over Pre-Wedding Shoots

Raipur: Kiranmayi Nayak, the chairperson of the Chhattisgarh Women’s Commission, stirred controversy after suggesting that pre-wedding photo shoots could be harmful to women if their marriages don’t work out and end in divorce. Nayak’s controversial remarks were made during the 172nd public hearing, which took place under her chairmanship on May 9th in Chhattisgarh’s capital Raipur. The hearing featured 25 cases, the majority of which were related to disputes between couples after marriage.

One particular case involved a cancelled wedding where the applicant filed a complaint with the commission. However, the applicant later withdrew the case after both parties reached an agreement. The opposing party returned the money spent on preparations for the wedding and deleted all photos and videos from the pre-wedding shoot. The applicant warned that any future sharing or circulation of these images without her consent would be reported as a cybercrime.

During the hearing, Nayak spoke out against pre-wedding photo shoots, saying that Western culture is having negative effects on Indian culture and that parents should avoid them for their children’s future. The debate surrounding Nayak’s comments has been ongoing, with many questioning her views and calling for a more nuanced discussion on the topic.
