Congress Calls Crucial Meeting to Resolve Rajasthan Rift as Assembly Polls Approach

New Delhi: After emerging victorious in the Karnataka polls, the Congress party has now shifted its focus to Rajasthan. With the upcoming Assembly election in a few months, the party aims to address the ongoing conflict between Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and his former deputy Sachin Pilot. To this end, the Congress leadership has scheduled a meeting in Delhi on Thursday.

The meeting is seen as an effort by the high command to reconcile the two factions and devise a strategic plan for the upcoming polls in Rajasthan, where the Congress remains a divided house. Both Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot are expected to attend the meeting, which will serve as a platform to assess the party’s current position and analyze its electoral strategy.

Following Pilot’s recent ultimatum to the Gehlot-led state government, party insiders believe that the internal dispute has been detrimental to the party’s prospects in Rajasthan. Resolving this conflict at the earliest is crucial for the party’s interests in the poll-bound state.

On May 15, Sachin Pilot publicly presented three demands to the Rajasthan government. He warned that if these demands, which include providing compensation to students affected by a paper leak, restructuring the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC), and establishing a high-level committee to investigate corruption cases during the Vasundhara Raje regime, are not fulfilled by the end of the month, the agitation would ensue in the state.

In addition to Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot, the meeting is expected to be attended by Rajasthan’s Congress in-charge Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, state Congress chief Govind Singh Dotasra, and the three co-in charges who were appointed earlier this year to assess the ground situation in Rajasthan before the Assembly polls. These co-in charges will present their findings to the state’s Congress in-charge, who will subsequently submit a report to party president Mallikarjun Khadge during the high-level meeting.
