Former Indian Hockey Captain Prabodh Tirkey Joins BJP After Quitting Congress

Subar: Former Indian hockey captain Prabodh Tirkey, who recently resigned from the Congress party, officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during a ceremony in Sonepur, Odisha.

The event saw the presence of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, BJP state president Manmohan Samal, and other senior party leaders who warmly welcomed Tirkey into the BJP fold.

The Congress had previously nominated Tirkey as its candidate for the Talasara Assembly constituency in Sundargarh district. However, he was replaced by Debendra Bhitaria in the party’s second list of 75 candidates. Shocked by this decision, Tirkey tendered his resignation from the Congress, citing his confusion over the sudden change after he had already commenced campaigning.

Tirkey had joined the Congress in September 2023.
