High Court Shocked by ‘Ghost’ FIR: Judge Orders Probe into Police Conduct

Prayagraj: A bizarre case of a land dispute has left the Allahabad High Court and the public stunned. In a shocking revelation, the court quashed an FIR lodged in 2014 against a family in Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh, after discovering that the complainant, Shabd Prakash, had died three years before the filing of the case.

The case took a bizarre turn when it came to light that the investigating officer not only registered the FIR but also recorded statements from the deceased and subsequently filed a chargesheet. The accused family, represented by lawyer Rajesh Kumar Singh, presented a death certificate confirming Prakash’s demise in 2011, leaving the court astounded.

Justice Saurabh Shyam Shamshery, hearing the case, expressed severe displeasure over the negligence and questioned the Superintendent of Police of Kushinagar about the inexplicable proceedings. The court further noted that an affidavit opposing a petition in the High Court was also allegedly signed by the deceased in 2023.

In a scathing order, the court quashed the chargesheet against the accused family and directed the SP to investigate the matter thoroughly. The court also directed the President of the High Court Bar Association to be informed about the case, highlighting the need for vigilance among legal practitioners.
