Dimple Yadav Leads In Family Stronghold Mainpuri

Mainpuri: Dimple Yadav of the SP has maintained a commanding lead in Mainpuri and has so far received 1,62,136 votes, surpassing Raghuraj Singh Shakya of the BJP.

Notably, Congress and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) did not run in the election.

Dimple Yadav’s husband Akhilesh Yadav, the SP chief, and top SP leaders spearheaded an intense campaign for the byelection to the seat, which has historically been a stronghold for the party.

Political insiders were somewhat surprised by the choice of Dimple because Tej Pratap Yadav, Akhilesh’s cousin and a former Mainpuri Lok Sabha MP, was regarded to have a good chance of being named the candidate. But because the SP family’s legacy is at stake in Mainpuri, the ‘bahu’ of the family was selected.

Mainpuri had gone to poll on December 5.
