Discovery Of Condoms, Alcohol From School Bags Sparks Twitter Debate

Authorities at several schools in Bengaluru last week found condoms, cigarettes, contraceptives, and alcohol in the school bags of Class 9 and 10 students. Whereas the students were sent for counselling, this discovery sparked a debate on Twitter.

The opinions among the people were divided, some defended the students and said it was excellent that they were aware of contraceptives and safe-sex. Others agreed, saying that until they are 18 years old, children must receive adequate intercourse instruction and have their behaviour supervised.

One Twitter user appeared to initiate the conversation by stating, “Yesterday in many schools across Bangalore school authorities found condoms, contraceptive pills etc in school bags (while checking if they carried phones) belonging to class 9th and 10th students. What is your thought on this #Bengaluru?”

“A system for age-appropriate intercourse instruction is what I genuinely feel is needed. The times we live in today are very different from the ones we grew up in. It’s kind of easy to get publicity and access to something. Please allow us to care for it properly and educate our children suitably. That shows they are aware of what is appropriate and inappropriate,” one person responded.

Another remarked that parents and schools needed to teach kids “positive behaviours” and “ethical principles.”

Though some appeared to disagree, they said that the condoms’ presence indicated safe sex was being used. “My opinion: I’m delighted they’re utilising security. It’s preferable to acting recklessly. No amount of policing will be able to stop this.”

“how is it sad to find Condoms and Contraceptives in their bags? It’s good they are using it and are aware of safety n precautions! Yes, alcohol n cigarettes, drugs bad for health n society that sud be addressed.” A Congress employee named Dr. Kavitha Reddy tweeted.

“This reaction to an awake… It is wrong to find condoms or smoke in public places since we are not breeding children to set them free from birth. We also have a moral and legal obligation to prevent them from using drugs or engaging in sexual activity until they are old enough to consent ” someone responded.
