Firefighter Killed in Devastating Godown Fire in Thiruvananthapuram

Thiruvananthapuram: In the early hours of Tuesday, a tragic incident occurred at a storage facility belonging to a Medical Services corporation in Thiruvananthapuram. A fire erupted at approximately 2.30 am at the Medical Services Corporation godown located in Kinfra Industrial Park, Thumba, resulting in a subsequent explosion within the premises.

Regrettably, the fire and rescue operations claimed the life of a courageous individual identified as Ranjith, a fire and rescue officer stationed at the Chacka fire brigade. Ranjith lost his life when a concrete beam collapsed on him during the rescue efforts.

At the time of the fire outbreak, only a security guard was present within the facility. As soon as the guard became aware of the situation, the fire services were promptly informed. According to a police officer, the collapsing beam inflicted fatal injuries on the firefighter. Although he was rushed to the hospital, he could not survive.

The fire originated in a section of the building where various chemicals were stored. While the fire has been successfully brought under control, the precise cause of the fire remains unknown at present. Further investigations are being conducted to determine the factors that led to this unfortunate incident.
