Man Found Hanging in Goa Forest, Wife & Son’s Bodies Discovered on K’taka Beach

Goa: The lifeless body of a 50-year-old man was discovered hanging from a tree in a forest patch of Goa, while the bodies of his wife and minor son were found on Devbag beach in neighbouring Karnataka. Authorities suspect it may be a case of mass suicide. The man, identified as Shyam Patil, worked as a labour contractor and was reportedly burdened by debts owed to institutions and individuals.

The grim discovery took place in Quepem taluka in south Goa on Thursday. The same day, the bodies of his wife, Jyoti (37), and their 12-year-old son were found on Devbag beach in Karwar, Karnataka. Preliminary investigations suggest a mass suicide, with the family residing in Chicalim village, approximately 15 kilometres away from Panaji. According to neighbours, they had departed for Karwar the previous day at 8:30 pm.

Prior to the incident, Patil had sent voice messages to friends and a relative, claiming that his wife and son had taken their own lives and expressing his intention to do the same. In Patil’s car, a note was discovered, revealing that he was driven to suicide by a severe financial crisis. Authorities are currently conducting further investigations into the case.

The local authorities are diligently pursuing their inquiry to uncover additional details surrounding this devastating event.
