Row Unfolds as Congress MP Demands ‘Separate Country’ For South Over Disproportionate Budget Distribution

Bengaluru: A Karnataka Congress MP DK Suresh Kumar, has accused the Centre of depriving South India of its fair share of developmental funds and using it to favour North India. He made this statement shortly after the presentation of the interim budget today.

Kumar alleged that South India is being treated unfairly in terms of “all matters” and “at every stage.” He demanded that the South receive its rightful share of funds, including GST, customs, and direct taxes. He warned that if the issue is not addressed, the South will be forced to demand a separate country.

The BJP’s Chaluvadi Narayanaswamy criticized Kumar’s statement, accusing him of promoting division instead of unity. He pointed out that Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra aims to unite the country, while Kumar is advocating for dividing it.

Kumar’s statement comes amidst similar complaints from other southern states like Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The Karnataka Congress government has also indicated that it is forming a bloc against the Centre’s “skewed” devolution of taxes.
