Gujarat Assembly Election Dates Announced

New Delhi: Gujarat will go to polls in two phases on December 1 and 5. The counting of votes will be held on December 8. The dates of the Gujarat assembly elections were declared by Rajiv Kumar, the Chief Election Commissioner, announced on Thursday.

Voting for 89 of Gujarat’s 182 assembly seats will take place on December 1 and for the remaining 93 seats on December 5.

The 182-member Gujarat Assembly was won by the BJP, which achieved its sixth straight victory by winning 99 seats in the most recent elections. The Congress put up a valiant fight, winning 77 seats.

After the assembly elections, the Congress had a wave of defections, and the BJP boosted its representation in the House to 111. The number of members of Congress was cut to 62.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is already in election gear and has its sights set on Gujarat. After a successful incursion in Punjab, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has travelled to Gujarat multiple times in an effort to increase the prospects of the AAP there.
