PM Modi Leads Historic Yoga Session at UN Headquarters on International Day of Yoga

New York: The historic yoga session led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the United Nations (UN) headquarters in New York to commemorate the ninth International Day of Yoga has commenced.

This momentous event is witnessing the participation of top UN officials, envoys, and individuals from over 180 countries. This mega celebration highlights the significance of yoga in strengthening one’s inner vision and fostering unity among individuals.

In a video message addressing the occasion, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the transformative power of yoga, stating that it helps eliminate contradictions, blockages, and resistance. He further emphasized the need to showcase India’s spirit of “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat” (One India, Great India) as an example to the world.

India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ruchira Kamboj, expressed the uniqueness of this year’s yoga celebration, with Prime Minister Modi leading the event at the UN headquarters. The prime minister’s presence marks a significant milestone as he was the visionary behind the concept of the International Day of Yoga, which was adopted by the UN in 2014.

The International Day of Yoga was first celebrated in 2015 and has since witnessed numerous sessions and events across the globe, showcasing the universal appeal and benefits of yoga. The UN recognizes yoga as an ancient practice originating in India that unites the body and consciousness. Today, yoga is practised in diverse forms worldwide and continues to gain popularity.

By leading this remarkable yoga session, Prime Minister Modi reiterates the importance of yoga in promoting physical, mental, and spiritual well-being, fostering unity, and spreading India’s cultural heritage to the world.
