Lok Sabha Polls 2024: 121 Candidates Illiterate, 647 Limited to Class 8 Education

New Delhi: According to a report by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), it has been revealed that out of 8,337 candidates contesting in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, a significant number have varied educational backgrounds.

According to the data, 121 candidates have self-declared as illiterate, while 359 candidates have reported education up to the 5th grade. Additionally, 647 candidates have indicated education up to the 8th grade, while 1,303 candidates have declared themselves as having passed the 12th grade. Furthermore, 1,502 candidates hold a graduate degree, and 198 candidates possess a doctorate.

The report further segregates educational qualifications across the phases of the elections. In the first phase, 639 candidates had education between the 5th and 12th grades, while 836 candidates were graduates or above. This trend continued across subsequent phases, with variations in the number of literate, illiterate, and undisclosed candidates.

As the elections progress, with five phases already completed, attention now turns to the sixth and seventh phases scheduled for May 25 and June 1, respectively. Vote counting is slated for June 4.
