Bengaluru: A Bengaluru-based music label has filed a case against Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Supriya Srinate, and Jairam Ramesh for using the superhit movie KGF-2 song in the Bharat Jodo Yatra video.
The music company, MRT Music said it invested huge sums of money to acquire the rights to the songs in the South Indian super-hit film KGF 2 in Hindi.
The Congress has picked up songs from the movie without seeking its permission and has used them to create marketing videos of the Bharat Jodo Yatra featuring Rahul Gandhi, the music company alleged.
Narasimhan Sampath, the counsel representing the music platform, said a complaint has been filed against the Congress represented by its general secretary Jairam Ramesh, Supriya Srinate and Rahul Gandhi for infringement of copyrights owned by MRT Music.

An FIR has been registered against the party, in general, and the three Congress leaders, in particular, under sections 403 (dishonest misappropriation of property), 465 (punishment for forgery), 120 (concealing design to commit offence punishable with imprisonment) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC, Section 66 of the Information Technology Act, 2000 and under Section 63 of the Copyrights Act, 1957.
“These unlawful actions committed by a national political party reflects their blatant disregard to the rule of law and the rights of private individuals and entities while they are conducting this Bharath Jodo Yatra to seek an opportunity to govern the county and frame legislation for protecting the rights of the common man and businesses,” read the note released by the MRT Music’s counsel.

Stating that the only asset that MRT Music possesses is the copyrights it owns, Sampath stated the music company has filed the complaint only to enforce its statutory rights and “has no intentions to tarnish the image of any political party.”
