300 kg Heritage Cannon Stolen from Punjab Armed Police Premises, Insider Role Suspected

Haryana: In a shocking incident, a group of unidentified individuals made off with precious heritage cannons from the premises of the Gazetted Officers’ mess of the Punjab Armed Police (PAP) near the Punjab and Haryana Secretariat. These magnificent cannons, measuring approximately three feet in length and weighing a whopping 300 kg, are crafted from brass metal.

The theft is reported to have occurred during the nights of May 5 and 6, as stated in the First Information Report (FIR) filed by Balwinder Singh, a member of the 82nd Battalion, on May 17. The Punjab Police have initiated a thorough investigation into the matter, treating it as a case of theft.

Given the significant weight and size of the stolen cannons, authorities suspect that the miscreants may have employed a truck or heavy vehicle to transport their illicit loot. Unfortunately, the absence of CCTV cameras in the area and on the premises has hampered initial progress in identifying the culprits. In an effort to gather crucial evidence, investigators are diligently reviewing CCTV footage obtained from the city’s main road junctions. Additionally, they are also recording statements from officials present on the premises during the time of the incident.

It is disheartening to note that insiders with knowledge of the cannons’ value in the international market are believed to have played a role in this audacious theft. This suspicion has further intensified the ongoing investigation. Realizing the importance of enhanced security measures, the Punjab Police have promptly commenced the installation of CCTV cameras on the premises to deter future criminal activities and safeguard valuable heritage assets.
