WhatsApp Bans 71.1 Lakh Indian Accounts in September

Meta-owned WhatsApp banned 71.1 lakh Indian accounts in September, complying with the country’s IT rules. Notably, 25.7 lakh of these accounts were proactively banned before receiving any user reports.

WhatsApp received 10,442 user reports in September and took action on 85 of them. The term “Accounts Actioned” signifies remedial actions taken by WhatsApp based on user reports, which could involve either banning an account or restoring a previously banned account in response to complaints.

WhatsApp emphasized that safety-related grievances generally pertained to issues related to abusive or harmful behaviour on the platform, and they responded to all grievances received unless they were considered duplicates of previous complaints.
