Cybersecurity Challenges Plague Indian Organisations: Report Reveals Alarming Gaps

New Delhi: A recent report by Tenable, a cybersecurity company based in Columbia, has found that Indian organizations struggle to prevent nearly half of cyberattacks due to their cybersecurity teams being overwhelmed with critical incidents. The report, which surveyed 825 IT and cybersecurity professionals in 2023, found that 64% of cybersecurity teams in India are too busy reacting to urgent incidents, leaving little room for a proactive approach.

The report also found that 81% of organizations in India use third-party programs for SaaS apps and services, but only 54% have visibility into these environments. This lack of visibility hampers proactive security measures.

Kartik Shahani, Tenable India Country Manager, emphasized the importance of proactive measures, stating, “In today’s threat landscape, by the time organizations react to cyberattacks, the battle is half lost.”

The report, titled “Old Habits Die Hard: How People, Process, and Technology Challenges Are Hurting Cybersecurity Teams in India,” underscores the need for Indian organizations to improve cybersecurity by:

  • Better aligning IT and security teams to work cohesively towards the common goal of improving cybersecurity.
  • Investing more resources in preventive cybersecurity measures, such as patching and remediation.
  • Gaining visibility into third-party SaaS apps and services.
