New Delhi: In India’s largest data breach to date, sensitive information belonging to 81.5 crore Indians has surfaced on the dark web. The breach potentially stems from data collected by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) during COVID-19 testing.
The stolen data includes Aadhaar and passport details, along with names, phone numbers, and temporary and permanent addresses. The data is being advertised for sale on the dark web by a hacker known as ‘pwn0001’.

The Computer Emergency Response Team of India (CERT-In) has notified ICMR about the breach, but there has been no official response from the Ministry of Information and Technology or other relevant agencies.
This data breach is a major concern for Indian citizens, as it exposes their personal information to criminals who could use it for identity theft, fraud, and other malicious purposes.
