14 Arrested for Disrespecting National Anthem in Jammu & Kashmir

Srinagar: At least 14 persons were arrested for not showing proper respect to the National Anthem during a function held in Srinagar in June. The arrested persons did not stand up when the National Anthem was played at the venue.

The Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha was present at this function.

Some police personnel were also suspended for dereliction of duty as they failed to ensure that everyone stood up while the anthem was played.

It was the closing ceremony of the ‘Pedal for Peace’ cycling event, organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Police, on June 25.

According to sources, some people present at the spot intentionally did not stand up during the National Anthem.

The J&K Administration took a strong note of the “disrespect” to the National Anthem and initiated an inquiry.
