2 Indian Nurses Top Contenders for Global Nursing Award

Two Indian are shortlisted for the prestigious USD 250,000 Global Nursing Award. This award is organised by Dubai-based Aster DM Healthcare to honour the contributions of nurses worldwide.

Shanti Teresa Lakra, who works among Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and Kerala-born and Ireland-based Jincy Jerry are among 10 worldwide finalists for the Global Nursing Award.

The winners will be selected through a public voting process before being evaluated by a grand jury judging panel for the award. The winner will be honoured at a ceremony in London on May 12, the International Nurses Day.

“The Aster Guardians Global Nursing Award was started by Dr Azad Moopen, India-born Founder Chairman and Managing Director of Aster DM Healthcare.

Shanti Teresa Lakra, from the G.B. Pant Hospital in Port Blair is a Padma Shri recipient for her nursing service over the years. She has spent considerable time within the tribal community of Andaman and Nicobar.

The other nurse from India in the running is Jincy Jerry of Mater Misericordiae University Hospital in Dublin, who serves as Assistant Director of Nursing for Infection Prevention and Control. In 2020, she introduced robotic process automation to the hospital.
