36 Dead in 24 Hours in UP Because of Heavy Rains

Lucknow: Heavy rains claimed 36 lives in Uttar Pradesh in the last 24 hours. CM Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over these deaths and announced immediate disbursement of a relief amount of Rs 4 lakh each to the families of the deceased. He also ordered for proper treatment of the injured.

Uttar Pradesh has already received 11 per cent excess rainfall during this monsoon season. This has led to a rise in river water levels, flooding and disruption of traffic movement in cities due to waterlogging, and loss of crop.

According to the UP relief commissioner, 17 persons were killed by lightning, 12 drowned, and deaths were caused by heavy rainfall in the state in the last 24 hours.

Incessant heavy rainfall was recorded in around 68 of the state’s 75 districts, according to the IMD. During the past 24 hours UP received 56 per cent higher than normal or “excess” rainfall, which was 13.6 mm against the normal of 8.7 mm, the IMD data stated.
