5 Killed in TN Cracker Factory Blast, Owner Arrested

Chennai: Five persons died when an explosion occurred in a fireworks factory in a village near Tirumangalam in the Madurai district of Tamil Nadu on Thursday. The owner of the factory, a woman named Anushia was arrested by the police. But her husband managed to abscond.

The deceased worked in this cracker-making unit. Apart from them, several other workers were also injured. The injured workers are being treated at Tirumangalam Government Hospital and Madurai Rajaji Hospital.

Police investigation is on to find out whether the cracker factory had violated any safety norms or not.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin expressed grief over the deaths in the cracker factory blast. He announced ex-gratia payment of Rs 5 lakh to the family members of the deceased. “I was deeply saddened to hear that five people died in an explosion today at a firecrackers factory in a village near Tirumangalam in Madurai district,” Mr Stalin said on Thursday.
