60-Day Fishing Ban Imposed in Bay of Bengal

Bhubaneswar: A two-month fishing ban has been imposed in the Bay of Bengal starting today. Fishing is banned with the objective of conserving fish during the breeding season.

The ban will be in force from April 15 to June 14. During the ban, all mechanized boats are not allowed to venture into the sea.

According to reports, small, non-mechanized boats that are less than 8.5 meters long with nets having big gaps are exempted from the ban.

Monsoon is the breeding season of various varieties of fish. The ban on fishing during the Monsoon in order to conserve fish was first imposed in 1998.
